We know little of Joseph Luxton and Margaret Powell except that they did not marry until after the birth and baptism of Charles. We know that Margaret was a widow at the time of their marriage.

There is a marriage of Robert Powell & Peggy Gore at St James, Taunton on 15 Apr 1805. As Peggy is a diminutive of Margaret, this may be our Margaret: Their grand daughter was Eliza Gore Luxton, adding weight to this supposition.

We have no direct evidence for the father of Charles Luxton. Because Margaret was a widow at the time of her marriage to Joseph Luxton, Charles' father could be one of:

a) Joseph Luxton, because of her subsequent marriage to him
b) Her first husband, Robert based on the above supposition
c) Other person unknown
